Motorcycles By Honda Have Appealed To Many Countries

Soichiro Honda's obsession was motor vehicles, but, paradoxically, he designed Honda motorcycles. He started out studying the mechanical aspect of automobiles while still a teeenager, working in a repair shop, and he loved racing and fast driving. He knew a lot about driving motorbikes, actually being the owner of a Harley as well as an Indian.

Honda had a repair shop in 1928, but was 41 years old in 1948, when he originally started the Honda Motor Company. He paid plenty of attention to top quality, because he understood that to compete he needed well-designed products that were made well. In 1953 japan was going through a depression, and, despite the fact that sales of motorcycles were on the up, the success of his company was in jeopardy. A small quantity of motorcycles were selling, and since he did not want to put people out of work, he kept the factory open. The wisdom of this determination was borne out in 1958, by the release of what became the most successful motorcycle in the world, the C100 Super Cub. The bike was versatile and affordable, within anybody's reach, driven by a 4-stroke motor with a 3-speed transmission.

Women specifically took to it for the intention of commuting, but novice riders of both genders loved it for its ease of use. The buzz of this bike catapulted Honda to the number one position by number of motorcycle makers in 1959. At this point they chose to set their sights on the entire world. They planned to set a precedence, so they decided to come to the United States. They believed once their designs were accepted by the American people, they would certainly win over the rest of the world as well. June of 1959 marked the first time a Honda could be purchased in a retail store in America, specifically in Los Angeles, and the number of well-to-do dealerships had mushroomed to over 75 just a year later.

Honda developed more trust for their products with their community involvement, when they provided half of the funding for two organizations. These were the Motorcycle Industry Council, as well as the Motorcycle Safety Council, both highly appreciated by enthusiasts of motorcycles. People kept championing Honda as being the number one motorcycle manufacturer during the seventies, as they continued developing new bikes which proved irresistible. In 1973 Honda bikes were the champions of over 70 races around the globe, and they were soon esteemed as the speediest available. During 1975 the GL1000 gold Wing was introduced as a touring bike, which delivered style and comfort to touring bikes, quickly copied by other manufacturers.

Honda continued to create unique motorcycles which attract a cross-spectrum of cultures. Part of their excellent image is a result of their continued practice of donating motorcycles to causes that they regard as worth supporting. Bike safety keeps benefiting by Honda's sustained funding of training classes and dissemination of important information for the promotion of motorcycling safety. Honda have developed a history of reliability over the many years they have been available. The success they have attained with some of the big risks they have taken has led to Honda being a virtual emperor of motorcycles.
